PMU Machine Cleaning Guide - popumicrobeauty
As a permanent makeup artist, learning how to properly clean your PMU machine is crucial. POPU, as the founder of the ACE Pro Team, has gathered advice from numerous renowned artists within the team to compile a comprehensive PMU machine cleaning guide.
I. How to Clean PMU Machine
1.Wear Disposable Gloves and Ensure Power is Off:
Whether you've just finished work or are engaged in routine cleaning at your workstation, it's essential to disconnect your PMU machine from the power source and wear disposable gloves before commencing the cleaning process. This practice helps prevent cross-contamination, irrespective of whether you're using a traditional wired machine or a wireless one.
2.Clean PMU Machine External Surfaces:
Use a soft facial cloth or makeup wipe dampened with specialized cleaning solution or disinfectant to gently wipe the surfaces connecting the cables, machine, and grips. (Note: if you're using a wireless PMU machine, be cautious as liquids can damage the motor. )Avoid spraying disinfectant or cleaning solution directly onto the machine. Before selecting a cleaning agent, ensure you understand the material used in your machine's casing to prevent potential damage. POPU PMU machines are made entirely of aerospace-grade aluminum, which can resist corrosion from common chemical components found in cleaning agents, such as:
-Weak acids (e.g., boric acid ≤ 10%, acetic acid ≤ 10%, citric acid ≤ 10%) -Hydrocarbons (e.g., pentane, hexane) -Ethanol -Most inorganic salts and their aqueous solutions (e.g., sodium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium sulfate) |
Recommended PMU machine cleaning agents include MADACIDE-1DISINFECTANT CLEANER, CHEYENNE PREP CLEANSER, MADACIDE-FD GERMICIDAL SOLUTION, etc.
3.Clean PMU Machine Accessories and Internal Parts:
Surface cleaning of the machine is just the initial step. Residue from pigments may accumulate in the grip or internal threads of the machine. You can use a disinfected cotton swab to check for any pigment residue. If you discover any, follow these steps for cleaning: First, unscrew the grip and use a similarly dampened cloth to wipe the surface. For hard-to-reach areas like internal threads and machine connections, use a soft cloth to wipe against the machine threads at least three times. Then, use a cotton swab dipped in disinfectant or a specialized nylon brush for cleaning. (Note: if your machine has O-rings, remove them for spray cleaning, It is best to spray the parts and let the disinfectant soak in for about five minutes - the exact soaking time can be found in the respective product, and consider regular replacement if feasible.)
4.Grip Cleaning with High-Temperature Sterilizer & UV LED Sterilizing Box:
If you've followed the above steps for cleaning, the final step ensures deep cleaning of your grip and machine, achieving 99.99% cleanliness. A high-temperature sterilizer utilizes high heat for thorough sterilization. The most common sterilization temperature is 120°C, maintained for 30 minutes. If your grip has been contaminated, this step is essential.
Alternatively, if there are no residues on your machine and grip, you can opt for a UV LED Sterilizing Box for daily cleaning. UV sterilization is a convenient method whereby placing the grip in the box for 20 minutes under UV light can eliminate over 99% of bacteria.
II. Post-Cleaning Care for PMU Machine
1.Secure Placement of PMU Machine:
Avoid placing the freshly cleaned machine in exposed areas. It's crucial to store the cleaned PMU machine in a safe environment to prevent damage from falls and, most importantly, to avoid secondary cross-contamination. Consider purchasing a PMU machine storage rack or storing it in its original box.
2.Use Original Accessories:
While your PMU device may be compatible with accessories from other brands, it's recommended to stick with original accessories. Using accessories from other brands haphazardly may lead to machine damage and could void warranties, depending on the brand's policies.
To ensure the safety of both customers and artists, strictly adhere to the above steps for cleaning your PMU machine, protecting not only your equipment but also yourself.
